After Paris The World Needs More Safety, Health, Happiness and Gratefulness

Posted By Terry Vermeylen

BabyhandThe tragedy from Paris was planned by people with no regard for human life. It was planned by terrorists whose personal values don’t support basic humanity.  A terrible tragedy.

As humans, what do we all want more of?

I have this saying I sometimes repeat to myself.

“I wish you and I a life of safety, health, happiness and much to be grateful for”

It’s a simple saying, but when I find myself getting irritated with co-workers or clients it is a simple reminder that we all want the same thing. That means every last human on the planet.

Safety. We certainly want to live in a safe world, without safety we live in constant fear. We also want a safe work environment with clean air, zero tolerance for work place bullies and safety rules to protect us. Let’s not live in fear at home or work.

Health. Once safety is established we want to be healthy. People around the world want nutritious food, clean water and medical attention when needed. At work we want flexible hours or telecommuting to avoid unhealthy commutes, subsidized healthy meals, gyms and health advice by professionals.

Happiness.   All of us want to be happy. How we imagine our happiness, differs from one another, but the basic value is always there. At work we want a decent pay, meaning and purposeful work, and praise for a job well done.  Don’t you want to be happier at home and work?

Gratefulness.  We have so much to be grateful for in our free and democratic society. We should wake up each day and give 5 thanks for having a warm shower, family, friends, food on the table and a roof over our heads. At work we should be grateful for the co-workers that help us, the people that make us smile, and the close bonds we make. It is not happiness that makes us grateful. It’s gratefulness that makes us happy. Think about it.

Right now this is what the world needs more of.

Safety

Heath

Happiness

Gratefulness

Let’s not forget about these human values during these dark times. It’s easy to seek revenge and even justifiable when people have no regard for humanity. But in the end we all want the same thing.

I am calling on all leaders to embrace these values and make the world a better place.

I leave you all with this;

“I wish you and I a life of safety, health, happiness and much to be grateful for”

Say it a few times and see how it feels.
