I am searching for another client and project, and after 5 projects its time to reflect on my past theories and how they were executed.
- Digital Transformation projects can be thrilling, frustrating yet very gratifying when Go Live happens and the client has new tools available. These include cloud, web-based, real time information, deep analytics, mobile potential, easier social platforms and much more. With IT advancing at a dizzying rate, I find these are exciting times.
- Having people collaborate and use simple tools is a key to success. People can hold many negative emotions or play the blame game. Once you are a respectful and collaborative team, this makes projects 100% easier.
- My old school method of Project Execution works well. Simple Visio business processes, Microsoft project plan, issue, risk and change logs, with regular and disciplined meetings are essential.
- Digital transformation of large and older systems can be much more complex than predicted. Data clean up, figuring out development work and security, are a few areas that cannot be underestimated.
- Do I enjoy this work? I enjoy dealing with people. I bring a vast skill set (which helps), yet I primality enjoy the people connection. Yes, clients will force scope changes and be demanding but if clients remain respectful, I’m happy. Its also important to put yourself in the clients’ shoes and feel what they are experiencing.
